I hope you all have had a great Christmas and New Year.
I would like to let everyone know that I have now commenced employment with CQID as Manager of the Placement Support Service (Foster and Kinship Care service). The Placement Support Service is funded to recruit, train, and support foster and kinship carers to care for a our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who require out of home care. As you may be aware, in Qld around 37% of all children in care are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. Our children who are placed in care are not always placed with family or other Indigenous families. Many children are placed with non Indigenous carers (Most of whom do a great job). Our aim as a Placement Support Service is to place as many children as we can with approved Kinship carers. Our target is to place 75% of our children with suitable members of their families. If we cannot find a suitable family member to care for a child/ren, we aim to then locate another suitable Indigenous family to care for them. I believe this is an achievable goal and will be of great benefit to our children in care.
If you are considering becoming a foster or kinship carer, or you know someone who is interested in becoming a carer, please do not hesitate to contact one of the Placement Support Services team. We are constantly recruiting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to train as Foster and Kinship carers and provide a very valuable service. Our staff will walk you through the entire process of becoming a carer and support you during the assessment phase to help make it as comfortable for you.
My team and I look forward to meeting with anyone who would like to know more about our service or just for a catch up. Please don’t hesitate to contact us.
I look forward to working with you all.
