Closing date for applications has been extended. Applications now close 10:00am Tuesday 08 May 2012.
Applications for the 2012 Indigenous Youth Leadership Program are now open.
The Indigenous Youth Leadership Program is an exciting opportunity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people to participate in a program that focuses on developing leadership skills and provides an introduction to Queensland’s democratic processes.
The program is hosted in Brisbane by the Department of Communities and is supported through a partnership with Xstrata Coal Queensland Pty Ltd.
In an interactive learning environment, participants will have the opportunity to widen their horizons and ambitions, and to develop their potential as young leaders. The program provides:
intensive leadership workshops — facilitated by Indigenous community leaders
mentoring and networking opportunities — participants can network with high-profile politicians, respected Indigenous elders and community leaders, and government representatives
mock legislative assembly experience — participants become members of parliament for a day. During workshops, each participant develops a debate for, or against, a proposed Bill. Participants then convene a mock legislative assembly session called the Indigenous Youth Parliament
career development day – providing participants with links to employment opportunities through the Australian Employment Covenant and Project 2800.
Applications can be submitted online at http://www.reconciliation.qld.gov.au/reconciliation/forums-and-awards/indigenous-youth-leadership-program-2012 or in writing.
