I am currently completing research that explores the experiences of disability support workers and how you go about working with policy – ‘Stories from the frontline: policy, practice and the experiences of Disability Support Workers in Queensland’. I am recruiting participants who would be willing to be interviewed to discuss many different aspects of the work you do.

Confidentiality is assured.

UNIQUE Care-Taker Opportunity with Red Cross

You might not know that Red Cross operates a Wellbeing Centre in Rockhampton, straight across from the Rockhampton Hospital at 1 Canning Street. Individuals accessing medical treatment, and their families, stay at the Centre for periods from overnight to ongoing with the support of Red Cross volunteers.

Red Cross is seeking new volunteers as both live-in and relief Care-takers. Free accommodation and utilities are provided in exchange for Care-taker responsibilities.

Exciting new Aboriginal Volunteer program

Four positions are currently open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, aged 18 – 35 years of age, who’d love the chance to live, work and learn alongside an inspiring community in South Australia.

The opportunities will see four young people live in the remote town of Oodnadatta for ten weeks commencing July through to September 2013, with the goal of sharing enthusiam, ideas and positivity with others.

All participation fees are fully-funded for the ten week assignments including travel, food, accommodation, project materials, medical insurance and respite activities.

The Aboriginal Volunteer program provides a unique opportunity for young Aboriginal people to use their life experiences, ideas and determination to contribute towards positive change in a remotely located community.

The program, in it’s second year is delivered through a partnership between Volunteering SA & NT, the South Australian Aboriginal Reference Group, Australian Volunteers International (AVI) and the community of Oodnadatta.

Driving to Engage- Volunteer Driver Mentors needed!

Please find and read the attached flyer. We are in search of volunteers for our Driving to Engage program in partnership with The Salvation Army Employment Plus who can spare a few free hours each week. The program is about helping the participants gain their 100 logbook hours so that they can go for their provisional license which will help towards gaining employment and being more actively engaged in the community.


! Volunteers Needed – Driving to Engage Program (Learners Licence to Provisional Licence)

We are recruiting volunteers (Mentor Drivers) to assist Leaner Drivers complete their required Log Book hours in a dual controlled fitted and authorised vehicle.

The program has been designed to assist Learner Drivers gain skills and confidence so they can obtain a Provisional Licence. This is a partnership formed with Salvation Army – Employment Plus. All training and support will be provided by DTMR, PCYC and The Salvation Army – Employment Plus.

This is not a driving instruction program. Mentor drivers are operating in the capacity as would a parent/guardian; family/friend would do if they were assisting a Learner Driver.

The Salvation Army – Employment Plus will also assist with the cost of professional accredited driving lessons with a local driving school in addition to mentor driving.

If you or you know someone who could assist Learner Drivers obtain a Provisional Licence and they are available for a few hours each week, please have them make contact.

Volunteer overseas: Youth development with Red Cross

Australian Red Cross is looking for youth workers to volunteer in Kenya and the Philippines.

Youth Development & Social Enterprise Officer (Kenya)

Work with young people in the small town of Kilifi, on the banks of the picturesque Kilifi Creek. You will support Kenya Red Cross’ young local volunteers to develop skills in management, recruitment and social enterprises.


Youth Engagement Officer (Philippines)

Support young people in the town of Legazpi to develop their own strategies to protect themselves and their communities from the effects of natural disasters.


These roles are part of the Australian Volunteers for International Development program, an Australian Government, AusAID initiative. Airfares, living allowances, accommodation, training, insurance, health & security support are included.
