Murri Court/Community Justice Group

Murri Court – Yoombooda gNugeena Aboriginal and Islander Justice Panel provides essential support and services to Aboriginal and Islander victims and offenders with the criminal justice system. Murri Court provides an opportunity for members of the Aboriginal and Islander community (including Elders and Victims) to participate in a court process which require offenders to take responsibility for their offending behaviour and respects and acknowledges Aboriginal and Islander culture.

The Department of Justice and Attorney-General (DJAG) provides funding to Aboriginal and Islander organisations to develop strategies within their communities for dealing with justice-related issues, and to decrease Aboriginal and Islander peoples’ contact with the criminal justice system. The CJG and Murri Court Program provides community members with the opportunity to work collaboratively with the courts, police, and staff from other government agencies to address criminal behaviour and provide support and assistance to victims of crime.
