The Healthy Communities Program at the QLD AIDS Council are pleased to announce their success in receiving funding from the Department of Social Services to deliver FREE training for the Aged Care Sector.

Ø FREE LGBTI Aged Care Champion Training for the Aged Care sector, supporting one champion in each aged care residential setting, day respite and community care service in 25 locations around the state, who will be the ‘go to’ person for staff support and organisational change regarding LGBTI issues.
This one day training is designed to:
Ø Explore who the LGBTI communities are
Ø Reflect on our own feelings towards this population group
Ø Gain a greater understanding of what it is like to life as a marginalised group in Australia today.
Ø Reflects on the current legislation surrounding discrimination
Ø Reviews the current policy framework for the aged care sector
Ø Reflects on the specific health issues facing our LGBTI seniors and how to cater to these needs
Ø Introduces the concept of organisational inclusivity and also personal inclusivity This training is very interactive with a range of activities and exercises, case studies and DVD footage to introduce and explore this topic in a safe and nonjudgmental way. The focus is on organisational inclusivity, not personal or faith based beliefs.
The Free LGBTI Champions Training will be rolled out from July 2014 until June 2015, If you are an aged care service that may be able to offer a venue or for further information on how we can support your service, please email Ricki Menzies at firstname.lastname@example.org<mailto:rm
