The Ministry for the Arts is now accepting expressions of interest from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists and arts groups to represent Australia at the 12th Festival of Pacific Arts in Guam next year.
The Festival of Pacific Arts is the Pacific’s largest regional cultural gathering, and the world’s largest gathering of Indigenous Pacific cultures. Since 1972, the Festival has brought together the peoples from 27 Pacific Island nations and territories to share their cultures and establish deeper understanding and friendship.
From 22 May – 4 June 2016, Australia will present a program of traditional and contemporary dance, music, theatre, visual art, storytelling, fashion and digital media, as well as handicrafts.
Australia’s delegation will present high quality works by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists that reflect, showcase and celebrate the richness and diversity of Australia’s Indigenous cultures. To maximise the impact of our program, artists will be expected to perform or exhibit in their primary artform, as well as being able to participate in or present workshops, seminars or demonstrations.
If you have an existing work, or a work in development, that showcases Australia’s Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander cultures and ties in with the Festival theme What we Own, What we Have, What we Share, United Voices of the Pacific, we encourage you to consider applying.
- be available from 19 May to 6 June,
- have, or be able to obtain a passport,
- be eligible for travel to Guam (a US territory), and
- be in good health.
