CQ Region : Skilling Queenslanders for Work Information Sessions

The Queensland Government has recently delivered on a key election commitment by reinstating the highly successful Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative.

The initiative will invest in foundation skills to prepare individuals to participate in and complete vocational qualifications. In addition, the initiative will provide tailored support, job preparation skills, work placements on community, public works and environmental projects and traineeship opportunities.

Skilling Queenslanders for Work will focus on providing training to people who are under-utilised or under-employed, as well as building the skills of young people, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disability, mature-aged job seekers and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

Funding under Skilling Queenslanders for Work is available from 2015-16, with the first funding round opening on 1 May 2015 and closing 19 June 2015. There will be two funding rounds each year under a transparent, contestable application process.

In light of the above, CQ Region Department of Education and Training, Training Queensland, is holding a number of information sessions across our Region as below:

URGENT – Information Session for Mining Program

The Salvation Army Employment Plus have partnered with Thiess Mining in Blackwater to deliver a “Women in Mining” employment program. These are fabulous traineeship opportunities, although they are initially looking to source candidates from the local area; if numbers are not reached, the employer will look to Rockhampton as the next preference.

As per the following flyer there are eligibility requirements, so please ensure that your Job Seekers are aware of these. In saying that, we still very happy for everyone to attend to hear the information.

(See attached file: Information Session Rockhampton (Thiess).pdf)

As the time frames are short could you please assist us by sending it out through your local networks.

If you have any questions please let me know.
