The Journey to Recognition comes to QLD

Be part of history when the Journey to Recognition comes through your town.

Recognise is the people’s movement to recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Australia’s Constitution and to remove racial discrimination from it. The Recognise campaign needs to build further support across the nation. To do this we are calling on Australians to join us as we travel the length and breadth of the country on the ‘Journey to Recognition’.

AFL legend Michael Long took the symbolic first steps of this journey on Sunday, 26 May 2013 in Melbourne. Since then, Journey participants have walked, cycled, driven and paddled over 17,000kms, visited more than 130 communities and involved more than 10,000 Australians along the way. After travelling through Victoria, South Australia, the Northern Territory and Western Australia, this movement has grown to over 185,000 supporters.

The Journey will be weaving across Queensland in 3 stages this year travelling from the North to the South. We are now planning the trip through your region for August/September 2014. This stage will begin in Townsville ending in Rockhampton, visiting lots of communities in between including Mackay, Mount Isa, Normanton and more.

To make the Journey a success we are looking to local organisations and community groups to lend their support by hosting or helping the Journey crew with a small local event/meeting. This could be organising a BBQ, community walk, showing us a local cultural site or inviting the Journey team for a cuppa. Check out some past events that might inspire you

If you would like to be involved, please email us with your town name to
