Exciting New Community Project from Relationships Australia Qld
In July, 2013 a dynamic community initiative will be launched and Relationships Australia Queensland is inviting you, as a key provider of community services, to express interest in your involvement.
Take-A-Step will engage with year 8 students and small groups of year 11 peer mentors in Queensland schools, on issues of social and emotional development, social inclusion and the challenging of unfair behaviours.
The program has been developed in consultation with leading innovators, such as Mind Matters and CASEL, as well as the education department’s Learning & Wellbeing Framework. It will utilise the power of applied theatre, group discussion and community fun-runs to connect students to the ideals of social inclusion and diversity.
Adding another exciting element to the project, facilitators Chris Pye and Alida Ramsay will invite local communities to join them at five community fun-run festivals over the 5 weeks of the tour, in Rockhampton, Gladstone, Bundaberg, the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane, to symbolise taking steps towards positive change in our communities. We would love to use these events to physically reconnect young people and families with a range of activities and services in their local community.
If your interest has been sparked we would like to hear from you on what you feel you could bring to the one-day festival. As Take-A-Step is all about engaging young people in fun, interactive ways, we would like to encourage organisations to think about what they might offer on the day, in addition to organisational literature (which young people may not read!)
If you would like to be part of Take-A-Step, please complete an expression of interest form and return to us by the end of the year and we’ll be in touch to talk about how we can facilitate your involvement.
In the meantime, please check out our project website at: www.take-a-step.org.au
